How to use your Multi Surface Touch Up Paint

Paintsmiths Multi Surface Touch Up Paint is a high quality, high opacity water based paint. It gives excellent coverage with a high quality Gloss, Satin or Matt finish. It is suited as a decorative, protective coating for most common surfaces such as wood, metal, concrete, brickwork, most plastics, fiberglass, and cement fibre board

General Advice for using Paintsmiths Multi Surface Touch Up Paint

Ensure the following to achieve the best results:

    • Heat emitting surfaces , such as radiators, should be painted cold and allowed to dry before heating.

    • Ensure that surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry.

    • As with other water-based paints, do not apply at temperatures below 8ºC (as recommended by British Standard BS 6150).

Step 1: Shake the Container Thoroughly

Shake the bottle for at least 60 seconds to thoroughly combine the paint. It is normal to see some splitting of the product if it has been sat for some time. A vigorous shake will re-emulsify the paint. Test the paint on a small and discreet area of the surface to be painted to check the colour match. Let it dry for about 10 minutes to see how it appears once dried.

Step 2: Surface Preparation

Ensure the surfaces to be painted are clean dry and free from dust, dirt grease and wax. Remove all loose and defective paint. Any mould and fungal growths should be removed and treated with a fungicidal wash. High gloss surfaces should be lightly abraded to provide a key for the best adhesion.

Step 3: Paint Application

Using the brush tip, apply thin layers of paint to the damaged area, ensuring smooth and even strokes. Be careful not to apply too much paint at once to avoid clumps. Multiple thin layer work much better than one thick layer. The normal finishing process is 2 coats of Multi Surface Paint, but on previously painted surfaces in good condition, 1 coat may be sufficient.

Step 4: Drying Time and Additional Coats

Drying time is crucial for achieving a smooth, professional finish. After the first coat, let the paint dry for at least 60 minutes. If a second coat is necessary to achieve full coverage, wait for the first coat to fully dry before applying another. Ambient temperature can significantly affect drying time, and therefore during colder periods, the paint can take up to 4 hours to dry.
